Ensure adequate ventilation of the workplace. Fuel vapors are poisonous.
Please note: all work on the car – BMW E39 touring – should be done with the engine switched off.

Carry out replacement in the following order:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.

Step 2

Lift the car using a jack or place it over an inspection pit.
Step 3

Unscrew the fasteners of the plastic car body protective cover. Use a drive socket #8. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a Phillips screwdriver. Use a clip removal tool.
Step 4

Remove the plastic car body protective cover.
Step 5

Unscrew the fuel pump bracket fastener. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 6

Remove the fuel pump bracket.
Step 7

Loosen the clamps of the fuel lines. Use a drive socket #5. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8

Prepare a container for fluids.
Step 9

Detach the fuel lines from the fuel pump.
Step 10

Detach the fuel pump connector.
Step 11

Remove the fuel pump together with its holder.
Step 12

Remove the fuel pump from the holder.
Step 13

Treat the fuel pump connector. Use electronic spray.
Step 14

Attach the fuel pump connector.
Step 15

Attach the fuel line to the fuel pump.
Step 16

Install a new fuel pump into the holder.
Step 17

Attach the fuel line to the fuel pump.
Step 18

Screw in the clamps of the fuel lines. Use a drive socket #5. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 19

Install the fuel pump together with its holder.

Step 20

Install the fuel pump bracket.
Step 21

Screw in the fuel pump bracket fastener. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 22

Reinstall the plastic car body protective cover.
Step 23

Screw in the fasteners of the plastic car body protective cover. Use a drive socket #8. Use a drive socket #10. Use a Phillips screwdriver. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 24

Lower the car.
Step 25

Remove the jacks and chocks.

Step 26

Run the engine for a few minutes. This is necessary in order to make sure that the component operates properly.

Step 27

Shut off the engine.
