Replacement: wheel bearing – SKODA SUPERB (3V3). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – SKODA SUPERB (3V3) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: wheel bearing – SKODA SUPERB (3V3). AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Remove the hub bearing protection cap.
- Step 7Install the wheel.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. SKODA SUPERB (3V3)
- Step 8Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 9Loosen the wheel hub bolt. Use drive 12-point socket #24. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 10Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: wheel bearing – SKODA SUPERB (3V3). Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 11Remove the wheel.
- Step 12Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 13Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 14Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.Replacement: wheel bearing – SKODA SUPERB (3V3). Professionals recommend:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.
- Step 15Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 16Remove the brake disc.
- Step 17Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use drive 12-point socket #24.
- Step 18Clean the hub. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 19Remove the drive shaft from the wheel hub.Replacement: wheel bearing – SKODA SUPERB (3V3). Tip from AUTODOC experts:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
- Step 20Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 21Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.
- Step 22Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 23Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use XZN #12. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 24Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit. Use a crowbar.Replacement: wheel bearing – SKODA SUPERB (3V3). Tip from AUTODOC:If necessary, use a rubber mallet.
- Step 25Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 26Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
