How to change a suspension strut repair kit on FORD MONDEO 3 TUTORIAL | AUTODOC
Replacement: strut mount – Ford Mondeo BWY. List of the tools you'll need:
Replacement: strut mount – Ford Mondeo BWY. Professionals recommend:
The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the left and right shock struts of the front suspension.
All mounts of the front shock struts should be replaced simultaneously.
Please note: all work on the car – Ford Mondeo BWY – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Replacement: strut mount – Ford Mondeo BWY. AUTODOC experts recommend:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Detach the ABS sensor connector. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 7
Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 8
Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 9
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a combination spanner #17. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 10
Remove the bracket from the shock absorber strut.
Step 11
Remove the stabilizer rod.
Step 12
Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 13
Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #32. Use a tap wrench.
Step 14
Remove the fastening nut.
Step 15
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 16
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 17
Remove the fastening bolts (2 pieces).
Step 18
Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.
Replacement: strut mount – Ford Mondeo BWY. AUTODOC recommends:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 19
Detach the brake hose from the shock strut. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 20
Remove the brake disc.
Step 21
Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 22
Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 23
Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 24
Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 25
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use Torx T55. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 26
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 27
Release the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
Step 28
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar. Use a hammer.
Step 29
Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
Replacement: strut mount – Ford Mondeo BWY. Tip from AUTODOC:
Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).

Lower the car.

Open the bonnet.

Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.

Remove the protective cap of the shock absorber mount. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 34
Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 35
Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Replacement: strut mount – Ford Mondeo BWY. Tip:
To avoid injuries, hold the shock strut when undoing the fastening bolts.
Step 36
Remove the suspension strut.
Step 37
Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.
AUTODOC recommends:
Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
Step 38
Compress the spring.
Step 39
Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 40
Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a combination spanner #18. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 41
Remove the shock absorber mount, boot and bump stop. Use a flat screwdriver.
Replacement: strut mount – Ford Mondeo BWY. Tip:
Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary.
Step 42
Install the new mount, boot, and bump stop on the shock absorber. Use a flat screwdriver. Use HEX No.H6.
Step 43
Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a combination spanner #18. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 58 Nm torque.
Replacement: strut mount – Ford Mondeo BWY. Professionals recommend:
Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
Step 44
Decompress the spring.
Step 45
Remove the assembled shock strut.
Step 46
Install the shock strut into the wheel arch.
Step 47
Screw the top fastening of the shock strut mount.

Important! Hold the suspension strut while screwing in the fastening bolts. Ford Mondeo BWY
Step 48
Tighten the upper fastener of the shock absorber strut mount. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.
Step 49
Install the protective shock absorber mounting cap.
Step 50
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 51
Close the hood.
Step 52
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 53
Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 54
Mount the drive shaft into the
wheel hub.
Step 55
Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
Step 56
Treat the fastening bolt. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 57
Install the fastening bolt. Use a hammer.
Step 58
Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use Torx T55. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 83 Nm torque.
Step 59
Install the brake disc.
Step 60
Clean the mounting seats of the caliper and its bracket. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 61
Install the brake caliper together with its bracket.
Step 62
Install the fastening bolts (2 pieces).
Step 63
Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use a drive socket #15. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 75 Nm torque.
Step 64
Fasten the brake hose on the strut.
Step 65
Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
Step 66
Tighten the fastening nut connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #15. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 40 nm torque.
Step 67
Treat the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use copper grease.
Step 68
Ιnstall the transverse stabilizer link.
Step 69
Install the bracket onto the shock absorber strut.
Step 70
Tighten the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a combination spanner #17. Use HEX No.H5. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 48 Nm torque.
Step 71
Attach the ABS sensor connector.
Step 72
Install the fastening nut.
Step 73
Tighten the drive shaft nut. Use a drive socket #32. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 290 Nm torque.
Step 74
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 75
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

Replacement: strut mount – Ford Mondeo BWY. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.

Install the wheel.

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 nm torque.

Remove the jacks and chocks.
