How to change brake hose on BMW 3 (E46) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Brake Hose for 3 Touring (E46) and other BMW models
Replacement: brake hose – BMW E46 touring. AUTODOC recommends:
The replacement procedure is identical for the right and left brake hoses on the same axle.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: brake hose – BMW E46 touring. Take the following steps:
Step 1
Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Step 2
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 3
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 4
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 5
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. BMW E46 touring
Step 6
Remove the wheel.
Step 7.1
Clean the area where the brake hose is connected to the brake caliper and to the brake circuit pipe.
Step 7.2
Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 8
Put a container for gathering brake fluid beneath.
Step 9
Unscrew the fastener connecting the brake hose to the brake circuit pipe. Use a combination spanner #10.
Step 10
Detach the brake hose from the shock strut.
Step 11
Loosen the brake hose fastening. Use a combination spanner #14.
Step 12
Unscrew the brake hose from the brake caliper.
Step 13
Screw the new brake hose onto the brake caliper.
Step 14
Tighten the fastener connecting the brake pipe to the brake caliper. Use a combination spanner #14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 22 Nm torque.
Step 15
Clean the brake hose mounting seat on the brake circuit pipe. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: brake hose – BMW E46 touring. AUTODOC experts recommend:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 16
Tighten the fastener connecting the brake hose to the brake circuit pipe. Use a combination spanner #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 14 Nm torque.
Step 17
Clean the area where the brake hose is connected to the brake caliper and to the brake circuit pipe. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: brake hose – BMW E46 touring. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 18
Fasten the brake hose on the strut.
Step 19
Connect the brake bleeder kit to the brake bleeder screw.
Step 20
Undo the brake bleeder screw. Use a combination spanner #9.
Step 21
Press the brake pedal several times to remove any air from the system.
Step 22
Tighten the brake bleeder screw. Use a combination spanner #9.
Step 23
Disconnect the brake bleeder kit.
Step 24
Clean dirt from the brake hose bolt. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: brake hose – BMW E46 touring. Tip:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 25
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a wire brush. Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 26
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 27
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 28
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 29
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Step 30
Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank and refill if necessary.
Step 31
Tighten the brake fluid reservoir cap. Close the hood.
