How to change rear springs / rear coil springs on VW POLO 4 (9N) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Springs for POLO (9N_) and other VW models
Replacement: coil springs – VW Polo 9N. Tip from AUTODOC:
Both coil springs of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the rear suspension.
Please note: all work on the car – VW Polo 9N – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW Polo 9N
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 9
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 10
Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: coil springs – VW Polo 9N. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 11
Take out the spring.
Replacement: coil springs – VW Polo 9N. Tip from AUTODOC:
Inspect the rubber mounts of the suspension spring. Replace if necessary.
Step 12
Clean the coil spring mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 13
Install the coil spring together with the rubber mounts into the mounting seats.
Step 14
Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 15
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 16
Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 40 Nm torque.+90°
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 17
Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.
AUTODOC recommends:
VW Polo 9N – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
Step 18
Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 19
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 20
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. VW Polo 9N
Step 21
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 22
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 nm torque.
Step 23
Remove the jacks and chocks.
