Replacement: track rod end – OPEL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. AUTODOC experts recommend:

Replace the tie rod ends in pairs.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right tie rod ends.
All the work should be carried out with the ignition switched off.

Replacement: track rod end – OPEL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. Recommended sequence of steps:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2

Loosen the wheel fasteners. Use a 19 mm wheel impact socket. Use a tommy bar.
Step 3

Raise the vehicle.

Warning!
If you are using a jack, make sure the car is parked on a hard, flat surface.Make sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 4

Unscrew the wheel fasteners.

Replacement: track rod end – OPEL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the fasteners.
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Clean all tie rod end connections. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7

Measure and note down the length of the exposed portion of the tie rod thread or the number of turns the tie rod end made when being unscrewed to prevent wheel misalignment during reassembly. Use a vernier caliper.
Step 8

Loosen the lock nut securing the tie rod end to the tie rod. Use a 19 mm combination spanner. Use a 21 mm combination spanner.
Step 9

Unscrew the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a 16 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 10

Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint separator.
Step 11

Unscrew the tie rod end from the tie rod.
Step 12

Unscrew the tie rod end lock nut.
Step 13

Clean the mounting seats of the tie rod end. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 14

Screw on a new tie rod end lock nut.
Step 15

Screw on a new tie rod end.

Replacement: track rod end – OPEL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. Professionals recommend:
When installing the tie rod end, remember to maintain the same length of the exposed tie rod thread or turn the tie rod end the same number of times.
Step 16

Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
Step 17

Tighten the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a 17 mm socket. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 37 N·m.
Step 18

Tighten the tie rod end lock nut. Use a 19 mm combination spanner. Use a 22 mm combination spanner. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 50 N·m.
Step 19

Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 20

Treat the brake disc surface that contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 21

Install the wheel.

Replacement: track rod end – OPEL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fasteners.
Step 22

Screw in the wheel fasteners. Use a 19 mm wheel impact socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 23

Lower the car and tighten the wheel fasteners in a criss-cross pattern. Use a 19 mm wheel impact socket. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 142 N·m.
Step 24

Remove the jack, jack stands, and wheel chocks.

After replacing the tie rods and tie rod ends, it is necessary to have the wheels aligned.
