The replacement procedure is the same for all spark plugs.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: spark plugs – MERCEDES-BENZ CLK (C208) V6. Take the following steps:

Step 1

Open the hood.

Step 2

Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.

Step 3

Remove the engine cover.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: spark plugs – MERCEDES-BENZ CLK (C208) V6. Do not use excessive force when removing the part as this may damage it.
Step 4

Remove the air intake hoses.
Step 5

Clean the air filter cover and housing.

Replacement: spark plugs – MERCEDES-BENZ CLK (C208) V6. Tip:
Before cleaning the air filter cover and housing, cover the air duct parts, mass airflow sensor (if available), throttle valve with a clean cloth.
Step 6

Remove the air filter housing.

AUTODOC recommends:
Do not apply excessive force when removing the part. Otherwise you may damage it.
Step 7

Cover the throttle body with a microfibre towel to prevent dust and dirt from getting into the system.
Step 8

Unplug the connectors from the ignition coils.
Step 9

Remove the spark plug wire connectors from the spark plug wells. Use long round nose pliers.

Be careful to avoid damaging spark plug wires.Remember the sequence of the spark plug wires connectors.
Step 10

Unscrew the fasteners of the ignition coils. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11

Take out the ignition coil from the spark plug well.

Replacement: spark plugs – MERCEDES-BENZ CLK (C208) V6. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Remember the sequence of steps for ignition coil demounting.
Step 12

Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells.
Step 13

Unscrew the spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 14

Take out the spark plugs.
Step 15

Apply a thin layer of a special high temperature anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs.
Step 16

Install the new spark plugs into their mounting seats.
Step 17

Screw new spark plugs and tighten them. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 27 nm torque.

Replacement: spark plugs – MERCEDES-BENZ CLK (C208) V6. Professionals recommend:
Don't tighten the plugs with excessive force. Exceeding tightening torque can damage the thread connection. Be careful when working with a spark plug wrench. Its skewing can cause damage to the threaded connection.
Step 18

Install the ignition coils to the spark plug wells.

Replacement: spark plugs – MERCEDES-BENZ CLK (C208) V6. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Follow the installation sequence.
Step 19

Install the spark plug wire connectors into the spark plug wells. Make sure you hear a click indicating that it is locked in place.

Follow the installation sequence.
Step 20

Tighten the ignition coil fasteners. Use Torx T30. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 18 nm torque.
Step 21

Treat the ignition coil connector with electronic spray. The spray will protect the electrical contacts from corrosion, oxidation, and will reduce the contact resistance.
Step 22

Plug in the connectors of the ignition coils. Make sure you hear a click indicating that it is locked in place.
Step 23

Remove the microfibre towel from the throttle body.
Step 24

Install the air filter housing.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: spark plugs – MERCEDES-BENZ CLK (C208) V6. Do not use excessive force during installation. This may damage the part.
Step 25

Install the engine cover and secure it.

AUTODOC recommends:
Make sure the engine cover is properly seated. It should not be displaced with respect to the guiding fasteners and the throttle body air intake hose.Replacement: spark plugs – MERCEDES-BENZ CLK (C208) V6. To avoid damaging the part during installation, do not use excessive force.
Step 26

Reinstall the air intake hoses.

Step 27

Run the engine for a few minutes. This is necessary in order to make sure that the component operates properly.

Step 28

Shut off the engine.

Step 29

Remove the fender protection cover.

Step 30

Close the hood.
