Replacement: strut mount – VW GOLF III Cabriolet (1E7). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the mounts of the left and right shock struts of the rear suspension.
- All mounts of the rear shock struts should be replaced simultaneously.
- Please note: all work on the car – VW GOLF III Cabriolet (1E7) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the boot lid.Step 2
Clean the upper fastener of the suspension strut mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 3
Loosen the upper fastener of the shock strut mount. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a shock absorber socket DD№6. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 4Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 5
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 6Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 7
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW GOLF III Cabriolet (1E7) - Step 8
Remove the wheel. - Step 9
Clean the lower fastener connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 10
Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a tap wrench. - Step 11
Remove the fastening bolt. - Step 12
Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 13
Unscrew the upper fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW GOLF III Cabriolet (1E7) - Step 14
Remove the suspension strut. - Step 15
Remove the top strut mount.Replacement: strut mount – VW GOLF III Cabriolet (1E7). Professionals recommend:Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary. - Step 16
Clean the mounting seats of the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 17
Install a new top shock strut mount. - Step 18
Install the shock strut into the wheel arch.AUTODOC recommends:VW GOLF III Cabriolet (1E7) – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while screwing in the fastening bolts. - Step 19
Raise the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.
