To avoid injuries, hold the shock absorber when undoing the fastening bolts.
Step 12
Remove the shock absorber.
Step 13
Grip the shock absorber in a vice.
Step 14
Clean the shock absorber rod fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 15
Remove the shock absorber piston rod fastening. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a shock absorber socket DD№4. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 16
Remove the shock absorber mount, boot and bump stop.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Volvo V50 MW. Tip:
Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary. Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
Step 17
Install the mount, boot and bump stop onto a new shock absorber.
Step 18
Screw the shock strut piston rod upper fastening. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a shock absorber socket DD№4. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 Nm torque.
Step 19
Release the vice and take out the shock absorber.
Step 20
Clean the shock absorber mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 21
Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and secure it.

Important! Hold the shock absorber while screwing in the fastening bolts. Volvo V50 MW
Step 22
Screw the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #10.
Step 23
Tighten the top shock absorber fastening. Use a drive socket #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 24 Nm torque.
Step 24
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 25
Screw in the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #15.
Step 26
Raise the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.
Step 27
Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #15. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 115 Nm torque.
Step 28
Remove the support from under the arm.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Volvo V50 MW. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 29
Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 30
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 31
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Volvo V50 MW. Tip from AUTODOC:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 32
Install the wheel.

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 34
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 nm torque.
Step 35
Remove the jacks and chocks.
