All the parts you need to replace – Shock Absorber for AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_) and other TOYOTA models
Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: shock absorbers – TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_). Recommended sequence of steps:
Step 1
Open the boot lid.
Step 2
Move the folding shelf and detach it from the retainers. By doing this, you will get access to the side trim plastic panels.
Step 3
Fold down the backrests of the rear seats.
Step 4
Raise the lower lining of the boot.
Step 5
Remove the side plastic cover.
Step 6
Remove the clips of the boot front lower lining.
Step 7
Remove the boot front lower lining. Use a clip removal tool.
Step 8
Unscrew the fastener of the central protective plastic panel. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 9
Lift up the central plastic cover (the battery cover).
Step 10
Remove the seat belt trim cover.
Step 11
Remove the plastic door sill plate.
Step 12
Unscrew the fastener and remove the boot side sound insulation.
Step 13
Clean the fasteners of the shock absorber upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 14
Loosen the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use HEX No.H6. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 15
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 16
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 17
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 18
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Replacement: shock absorbers – TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_). Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 19
Remove the wheel.
Step 20
Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 21
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 22
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 23
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 24
Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber.
Replacement: shock absorbers – TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_). AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injuries, hold the shock absorber when undoing the fastening bolts.
Step 25
Remove the shock absorber.
Step 26
Remove the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop.
Replacement: shock absorbers – TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_). Tip from AUTODOC:
Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary. Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
Step 27
Install the dust sleeve and the bump stop on the new shock absorber.
Step 28
Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and secure it.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the shock absorber while screwing in the fastening bolts. TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_)
Step 29
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 30
Raise the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.
Step 31
Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 75 Nm torque.
Step 32
Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: shock absorbers – TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 33
Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 34
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 35
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: shock absorbers – TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 36
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. TOYOTA AURIS (NZE18_, ZRE18_)
Step 37
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 38
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 103 nm torque.
Step 39
Tighten the top shock absorber fastening. Use HEX No.H6. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 Nm torque.
Step 40
Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 41
Install the boot side sound insulation and screw in its fasteners.
Step 42
Install the seat belt trim cover.
Step 43
Install the central protective plastic panel.
Step 44
Screw in the fastener of the central protective plastic panel. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 45
Install the plastic door sill plate.
Step 46
Install the boot front lower lining.
Step 47
Install the clips of the boot front lower lining.
Step 48
Install the side plastic panel.
Step 49
Put down the lower lining of the boot.
Step 50
Return the seat to its original position.
Step 51
Install the folding shelf to its mounting seat.
Step 52
Close the lid of the luggage compartment.
Step 53
Remove the jacks and chocks.
