All the parts you need to replace – Control Arm for FOCUS II Convertible and other FORD models
Replacement: front lower arm – FORD FOCUS II Convertible. AUTODOC recommends:
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
Replacement of the independent suspension lower arm in some cars requires a part of the outlet piping of the additional heater to be removed.
Please note: all work on the car – FORD FOCUS II Convertible – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Replacement: front lower arm – FORD FOCUS II Convertible. Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Remove the lower sound insulation.
Please note!
Some cars are not equipped with the lower sound insulation.
Step 7
Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Treat all joints of the arm. Use WD-40 spray.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – FORD FOCUS II Convertible. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.Wear protective goggles.
Step 8
Unscrew the ball joint fastening nut. Use a combination spanner #22.
Step 9
Unscrew the fastening nut, remove the control arm from the steering knuckle, using a ball joint puller.
Step 10
Unscrew the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 11
Remove the front fastener of the control arm. Use a crowbar. Use a hammer.
Step 12
Unscrew the rear arm fastener. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 13
Remove the rear fastener of the control arm.
Step 14
Remove the arm. Use a crowbar.
Step 15
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 16
Install a new arm.
Replacement: front lower arm – FORD FOCUS II Convertible. AUTODOC experts recommend:
During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
Step 17
Install the front fastener of the arm. Do not tighten it.
Step 18
Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
Step 19
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 20
Install the fastening nut of the ball joint.
Step 21
Install the rear fastener of the arm.
Step 22
Screw the rear arm fastener. Use a drive socket #15. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 23
Screw the front arm fastener. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 175 nm torque.
Step 24
Tighten the rear fastener connecting the arm to the body subframe. Use a drive socket #15. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 115 nm torque.
Step 25
Tighten the ball joint fastening nut. Use a combination spanner #22. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 70 nm torque.
Step 26
Remove the support from under the arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: front lower arm – FORD FOCUS II Convertible. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 27
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 28
Install the wheel.
Replacement: front lower arm – FORD FOCUS II Convertible. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 29
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 30
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 nm torque.
Step 31
Remove the jacks and chocks.
