How to change rear springs / rear coil springs on RENAULT MEGANE 2 (LM) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Springs for MEGANE II Saloon (LM0/1_) and other RENAULT models
Replacement: coil springs – Renault Megane 2. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Both coil springs of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the rear suspension.
Please note: all work on the car – Renault Megane 2 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 3
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Renault Megane 2
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Unscrew the fastener of the rear axle plastic protecting cover. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 7
Detach the fastener of the rear axle plastic protecting cover. Use a crowbar.
Step 8
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 9
Secure the rear axle beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 10
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.
Step 11
Detach the lower part of the shock absorber. Use a crowbar.
Step 12
Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: coil springs – Renault Megane 2. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 13
Pull down the rear suspension beam. Use a crowbar. Take out the spring.
Step 14
Inspect the rubber mounts of the suspension spring. Replace if necessary.
Step 15
Clean the coil spring mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 16
Install the coil spring together with the rubber mounts into the mounting seats.
Step 17
Secure the rear axle beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 18
Mount the lower part of the shock absorber.
Step 19
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush.
Step 20
Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #18. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 105 Nm torque.
Step 21
Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 22
Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.
AUTODOC recommends:
Renault Megane 2 – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
Step 23
Install the rear axle plastic protecting cover and fasten it.
Step 24
Screw in the fasteners of the rear axle plastic protecting cover. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 25
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Renault Megane 2
Step 26
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 27
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 28
Remove the jacks and chocks.
