Replacement: brake caliper – Mercedes W203. AUTODOC recommends:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right brake calipers on the same axle.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: brake caliper – Mercedes W203. Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
- Step 2Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 3Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 4Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 5Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: brake caliper – Mercedes W203. Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 6Remove the wheel.
- Step 7Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 8Clean the area where the brake hose is connected to the caliper, and the guide pins area. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: brake caliper – Mercedes W203. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
- Step 9Clamp the brake hose off using a brake hose clamp.
- Step 10Put a container for gathering brake fluid beneath.
- Step 11Loosen the brake hose fastening. Use a combination spanner #14.
- Step 12Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 13Remove the brake caliper.
- Step 14Unscrew the brake hose from the brake caliper.Replacement: brake caliper – Mercedes W203. AUTODOC experts recommend:When replacing a brake caliper it is recommended to replace brake pads, check the state of the brake discs and replace them with new ones if necessary.
- Step 15Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 16While replacing the brake caliper on Mercedes W203, closely examine brake hoses for any signs of damage. Replace them if needed.Step 17Remove the brake pad retaining pin. Use a hammer. Use a pin punch.
- Step 18Remove the brake pads.
- Step 19If going to use the old brake pads, clean them. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.Replacement: brake caliper – Mercedes W203. Tip:After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
- Step 20Treat the surface where the brake pads contact the brake caliper. Use anti-squeal paste.
- Step 21Screw the brake caliper on the brake pipe.
- Step 22Install the brake caliper and fix it.
- Step 23Tighten the brake caliper fasteners. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 55 Nm torque.
