Replacement: inner tie rod – VAUXHALL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. AUTODOC recommends:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right tie rods and left and right tie rod ends.
- All the work should be carried out with the ignition switched off.
Replacement: inner tie rod – VAUXHALL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. Take the following steps:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel fasteners. Use a 19 mm wheel impact socket. Use a tommy bar. - Step 3Raise the vehicle.Replacement: inner tie rod – VAUXHALL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. Tip:If you are using a jack, make sure the car is parked on a hard, flat surface.Make sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.Step 4
Unscrew the wheel fasteners.Caution!To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the fasteners. - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Clean all tie rod end connections. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 7
Measure and note down the length of the exposed portion of the tie rod thread or the number of turns the tie rod end made when being unscrewed to prevent wheel misalignment during reassembly. Use a vernier caliper. - Step 8
Loosen the lock nut securing the tie rod end to the tie rod. Use a 19 mm combination spanner. Use a 21 mm combination spanner. - Step 9
Unscrew the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a 16 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 10
Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint separator. - Step 11
Unscrew the tie rod end from the tie rod. - Step 12
Unscrew the tie rod end lock nut. - Step 13
Loosen the inner (steering rack side) clamp of the steering rack boot. Use a slotted screwdriver. - Step 14
Loosen the outer (tie rod end side) clamp of the steering rack boot. Use combination pliers. - Step 15
Remove the steering rack boot. - Step 16
Loosen the tie rod fastener. Use a 32 mm combination spanner. - Step 17
Unscrew the tie rod from the steering rack. - Step 18
Clean the tie rod end mounting seat on the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 19
Screw a new tie rod onto the steering rack. - Step 20
Tighten the tie rod fastener. Use an inner tie rod tool. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 50 N·m.
