Replacement: inner tie rod – OPEL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. AUTODOC recommends:

The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right tie rods and left and right tie rod ends.
All the work should be carried out with the ignition switched off.

Replacement: inner tie rod – OPEL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. Take the following steps:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2

Loosen the wheel fasteners. Use a 19 mm wheel impact socket. Use a tommy bar.
Step 3

Raise the vehicle.

Replacement: inner tie rod – OPEL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. Tip:
If you are using a jack, make sure the car is parked on a hard, flat surface.Make sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 4

Unscrew the wheel fasteners.

Caution!
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the fasteners.
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Clean all tie rod end connections. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7

Measure and note down the length of the exposed portion of the tie rod thread or the number of turns the tie rod end made when being unscrewed to prevent wheel misalignment during reassembly. Use a vernier caliper.
Step 8

Loosen the lock nut securing the tie rod end to the tie rod. Use a 19 mm combination spanner. Use a 21 mm combination spanner.
Step 9

Unscrew the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a 16 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 10

Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint separator.
Step 11

Unscrew the tie rod end from the tie rod.
Step 12

Unscrew the tie rod end lock nut.
Step 13

Loosen the inner (steering rack side) clamp of the steering rack boot. Use a slotted screwdriver.
Step 14

Loosen the outer (tie rod end side) clamp of the steering rack boot. Use combination pliers.
Step 15

Remove the steering rack boot.
Step 16

Loosen the tie rod fastener. Use a 32 mm combination spanner.
Step 17

Unscrew the tie rod from the steering rack.
Step 18

Clean the tie rod end mounting seat on the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 19

Screw a new tie rod onto the steering rack.
Step 20

Tighten the tie rod fastener. Use an inner tie rod tool. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 50 N·m.
Step 21

Install a new steering rack boot.
Step 22

Install the outer clamp of the steering rack boot. Use combination pliers.
Step 23

Install and tighten the inner clamp of the steering rack boot. Use combination pliers. Use tin snips.
Step 24

Screw on a tie rod end lock nut.
Step 25

Screw on a tie rod end.

Replacement: inner tie rod – OPEL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. AUTODOC experts recommend:
When installing the tie rod end, remember to maintain the same length of the exposed tie rod thread or turn the tie rod end the same number of times.
Step 26

Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
Step 27

Tighten the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a 17 mm socket. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 37 N·m.
Step 28

Tighten the tie rod end lock nut. Use a 19 mm combination spanner. Use a 22 mm combination spanner. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 50 N·m.
Step 29

Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 30

Treat the brake disc surface that contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 31

Install the wheel.

Replacement: inner tie rod – OPEL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. Professionals recommend:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fasteners.
Step 32

Screw in the wheel fasteners. Use a 19 mm wheel impact socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 33

Lower the car and tighten the wheel fasteners in a criss-cross pattern. Use a 19 mm wheel impact socket. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 142 N·m.
Step 34

Remove the jack, jack stands, and wheel chocks.

After replacing the tie rods and tie rod ends, it is necessary to have the wheels aligned.
