- The replacement procedure is identical for all glow plugs.
- All the work should be carried out with the ignition switched off.
Carry out the replacement steps as follows:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to avoid damaging the paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3
Unsnap the air intake hose clips. - Step 4
Disconnect the air intake hose from the air filter housing. - Step 5
Unsnap the air filter cover clips. - Step 6
Remove the air filter cover. - Step 7
Plug the air intake hose with a microfibre towel to prevent dust and dirt from getting into the system. - Step 8
Remove the filter element from the filter housing. - Step 9
Unscrew the fasteners of the air filter housing. Use a 10 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 10
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 11
Detach the rubber hoses from the air filter housing. - Step 12
Remove the oil dipstick. - Step 13
Plug the oil dipstick hole with a paper towel to prevent dirt from entering the system. - Step 14
Remove the air filter housing. - Step 15
Clean the connectors of the fuel pressure, MAP and camshaft position sensors. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 16
Unscrew the nut that secures the glow plugs power cable terminal. Use an 8 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 17
Detach the fuel pressure sensor connector. - Step 18
Detach the MAP sensor connector. - Step 19
Detach the camshaft position sensor connector. - Step 20
Detach the wiring harness fastener and move the harness aside. Use a clip removal tool. - Step 21
Clean the fasteners of the oil dipstick tube bracket. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 22
Unscrew the fasteners of the oil dipstick tube bracket. Use an 8 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 23
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 24
Clean the intake manifold fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 25
Unscrew the fasteners that connect the air intake hose to the intake manifold. Use a 13 mm socket. Use an 8 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a U-joint socket extension. - Step 26
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 27
Detach the air intake hose from the intake manifold. - Step 28
Plug the air intake hose with a paper towel to prevent dust and dirt from getting into the system. - Step 29
Unscrew the intake manifold fasteners. Use a 10 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 30
Remove the intake manifold. - Step 31
Plug the intake manifold openings with paper towels to prevent dust and dirt from getting into the system. - Step 32
Unscrew the nuts that connect the power terminals to the glow plugs. Use a 7 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 33
Remove the power terminal nuts. - Step 34
Remove the terminals and move the glow plug wire out of the way. - Step 35
Clean around the glow plug wells to remove any dirt, dust or debris. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 36
Unscrew the glow plugs. Use a 10 mm glow plug socket. Use a torque wrench.Replacement: glow plugs – FORD TRANSIT Bus (FD_ _, FB_ _, FS_ _, FZ_ _, FC_ _). Professionals recommend:Glow plugs can get stuck over time and break apart when removed.Before unscrewing the parts, use a torque wrench to loosen them to avoid exceeding the breakaway torque specified by the car manufacturer.If you have reached the breakaway torque but the glow plugs still will not loosen up, you need to seek professional help: a glow plug fragment left inside the well or damage to the thread of the mounting seat can result in costly engine repairs. - Step 37
Remove the glow plugs. - Step 38
Treat the new glow plugs. Use ceramic grease. - Step 39
Install the new glow plugs into their mounting seats. - Step 40
Tighten the glow plugs. Use a 10 mm glow plug socket. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 13 N·m.Caution!Don't use excessive force when tightening the glow plugs. Overtightening can damage the threaded connection. - Step 41
Install the glow plug wire. - Step 42
Screw on the power terminal nuts. - Step 43
Tighten the power terminal nuts. Use a 7 mm socket. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 4 N·m. - Step 44
Clean the intake manifold mounting seat. Use a gasket scraper. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 45
Remove the intake manifold gaskets. - Step 46
Clean the intake manifold. Use a nylon brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 47
Install new intake manifold gaskets. - Step 48
Remove the paper towels from the intake manifold openings.
