Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.
Step 13
Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 14
Remove the brake disc.
Step 15
Clean the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 16
Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #17.
Step 17
Disconnect the spherical joint from the arm. Use a crowbar.
Step 18
Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #30. Use a tap wrench.
Step 19
Treat the splines of the driveshaft CV joint. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 20
Remove the drive shaft. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
Replacement: wheel bearing – TOYOTA AVENSIS Estate (ZRT27, ADT27). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
Step 21
Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 22
Clean the fasteners of the wheel hub bearing. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 23
Unscrew the hub bearing mounting. Use a drive socket #17. Use a tap wrench.
Step 24
Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit. Use a crowbar. Use a hammer.
Step 25
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 26
Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
Step 27
Tighten the wheel hub bearing fasteners. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 28
Tighten the fastener of the wheel hub bearing. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 96 nm torque.
Step 29
Treat the splines of the driveshaft CV joint. Use copper grease.
Step 30
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – TOYOTA AVENSIS Estate (ZRT27, ADT27). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 31
Mount the drive shaft into the
wheel hub.
Step 32
Attach the ball joint to the control arm. Use a crowbar.
Step 33
Screw the fasteners of the ball joint. Use a drive socket #17.
Step 34
Tighten the ball joint fastener. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 92 nm torque.
Step 35
Treat the hub where it contacts the brake disk. Use copper grease.
Step 36
Install the brake disc.
Step 37
Clean the mounting seats of the caliper and its bracket. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 38
Install the brake caliper bracket.
Step 39
Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 98 nm torque.
Step 40
Screw the nut of the drive shaft. Use a drive socket #30. Use a tap wrench.
Step 41
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a wire brush.
Step 42
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
