AUTODOC recommends:

Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your PEUGEOT 306 Box Body / Hatchback car.
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
Please note: all work on the car – PEUGEOT 306 Box Body / Hatchback – should be done with the engine switched off.

Carry out replacement in the following order:

Step 1

Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Step 2

Secure the wheels with chocks.

Step 3

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 4

Raise the car.

Replacement: wheel bearing – PEUGEOT 306 Box Body / Hatchback. Tip:
If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 5

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. PEUGEOT 306 Box Body / Hatchback
Step 6

Remove the wheel.
Step 7

Clean the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 8

Remove the cotter pin. Use a crowbar.
Step 9

Remove the circlip.
Step 10

Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #36. Use a tap wrench.
Step 11

Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 12

Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 13

Unscrew the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a drive socket #19. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 14

Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 15

Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.

Replacement: wheel bearing – PEUGEOT 306 Box Body / Hatchback. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 16

Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 17

Unscrew the brake disc fasteners. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 18

Remove the fastening bolts.

Step 19

Remove the brake disc.
Step 20

Clean the fastener that connects the brake hose bracket to the suspension strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 21

Unscrew the fastener that connects the brake hose bracket to the suspension strut. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 22

Remove the brake hose bracket.
Step 23

Clean the lower fastener connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 24

Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 25

Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 26

Remove the fastening bolt.

Step 27

Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 28

Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 29

Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 30

Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 31

Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 32

Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 33

Release the fastener that connects the control arm ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
Step 34

Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Use a crowbar.
Step 35

Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub.
Step 36

Remove the fastening nut.

Step 37

Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. PEUGEOT 306 Box Body / Hatchback
Step 38

Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle.

AUTODOC recommends:
Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
Step 39

Release the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.

Step 40

Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.

Step 41

Remove the steering knuckle together with the wheel hub.
Step 42

Clean the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 43

Remove the hub from the steering knuckle. Bush and bearing driver set.
Step 44

Remove the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
Step 45

Dismantle the inner bearing race that is remaining on the hub. Bush and bearing driver set. Use a bearing separator.
Step 46

Press out the wheel hub bearing. Bush and bearing driver set.
Step 47

Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 48

Press the new bearing in the steering knuckle. Bush and bearing driver set.

Replacement: wheel bearing – PEUGEOT 306 Box Body / Hatchback. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment. Stop pressing on the surface of the bearing immediately after it has been fitted into its mounting seat.
Step 49

Install the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
Step 50

Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 51

Install the wheel hub on the steering knuckle. Bush and bearing driver set.

Replacement: wheel bearing – PEUGEOT 306 Box Body / Hatchback. AUTODOC recommends:
Make sure that the wheel hub is positioned correctly. Avoid any misalignment.
Step 52

Clean the mounting seats of the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 53

Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 54

Clean the ball joint. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 55

Clean the tie rod end. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 56

Install the steering knuckle assembled with the wheel hub.
Step 57

Fix the shock absorber strut on the steering knuckle.

Step 58

Install the fastening bolt.
Step 59

Treat the splines of the driveshaft CV joint. Use copper grease.
Step 60

Install the steering knuckle on the CV axle.
Step 61

Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
Step 62

Install the fastening bolt.
Step 63

Screw the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 64

Screw in the fastener that connects the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 65

Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
Step 66

Tighten the fastening nut connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 40 Nm torque.
Step 67

Tighten the lower fasteners of the suspension strut. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 55 Nm torque.
Step 68

Tighten the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #16. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 40 Nm torque.
Step 69

Install the fastening nut.
Step 70

Screw the nut of the drive shaft. Use a drive socket #36. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 71

Clean the wheel hub. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 72

Treat the contacting surface. Use ceramic grease.

Step 73

Install the brake disc.
Step 74

Install the fastening bolts.
Step 75

Tighten the brake disc fasteners. Use Torx T30. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 10 Nm torque.
Step 76

Install the brake caliper together with its bracket.
Step 77

Install the fastening bolts.
Step 78

Tighten the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 105 nm torque.
Step 79

Install the brake hose bracket.
Step 80

Tighten the brake hose fastening bracket to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 12 nm torque.
Step 81

Tighten the drive shaft nut. Use a drive socket #36. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 320 Nm torque.
Step 82

Restake the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a flat metal-working chisel. Use a hammer.
Step 83

Treat the fastener that connects the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Treat the ball joint fastener. Treat the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use copper grease.
Step 84

Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.

Step 85

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 86

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – PEUGEOT 306 Box Body / Hatchback. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 87

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. PEUGEOT 306 Box Body / Hatchback
Step 88

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
Step 89

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 Nm torque.
Step 90

Remove the jacks and chocks.

Replacement: wheel bearing – PEUGEOT 306 Box Body / Hatchback. Professionals recommend:
Without starting the engine, press the brake pedal several times until you feel significant resistance.Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank and refill if necessary.
Step 91

Tighten the brake fluid reservoir cap. Close the hood.
