Replacement: strut mount – VAUXHALL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. Professionals recommend:
- The struts, coil springs, and strut mounts of the front suspension should be replaced in pairs.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the right and left struts, coil springs, and strut mounts of the front suspension.
- All the work should be carried out with the ignition switched off.
Replacement: strut mount – VAUXHALL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. Recommended sequence of steps:
- Step 1
Open the bonnet. - Step 2
Use a fender protection cover to avoid damaging the paintwork and plastic parts of the car. - Step 3
Remove the cap from the suspension strut's upper fastener. - Step 4
Clean the upper fastener of the suspension strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 5
Loosen the upper fastener of the suspension strut. Use a 21 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.Important!Do not fully unscrew the upper fastener of the suspension strut. - Step 6
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 7
Loosen the wheel fasteners. Use a 19 mm wheel impact socket. Use a tommy bar. - Step 8
Raise the vehicle.Replacement: strut mount – VAUXHALL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. AUTODOC recommends:If you are using a jack, make sure the car is parked on a hard, flat surface.Make sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands. - Step 9
Unscrew the wheel fasteners.Caution!To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the fasteners. - Step 10
Remove the wheel. - Step 11
Clean the fastener that connects the anti-roll bar link to the suspension strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 12
Unscrew the fastener connecting the anti-roll bar link to the suspension strut. Use a 16 mm combination spanner. - Step 13
Clean the fasteners connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 14
Unscrew the fasteners connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a 21 mm combination spanner. Use a 21 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 15
Jack up the steering knuckle. Use a transmission jack or one more vehicle jack. - Step 16
Punch the fastening bolts out, but do not remove them. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer. - Step 17
Remove the upper fastener of the suspension strut. - Step 18
Remove the upper stopping plate from the suspension strut. - Step 19
Detach the brake hose from its bracket on the strut. - Step 20
Remove the fastening bolts. - Step 21
Remove the suspension strut.Replacement: strut mount – VAUXHALL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. Tip from AUTODOC experts:Depending on what part you are replacing, you may have to disassemble the suspension strut. But if you use all new components, then you will not need to disassemble the old strut. In this case, a stationary spring compressor will only be required to assemble a new strut if its parts were purchased separately. - Step 22
Clean the suspension strut mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 23
Clean the fastener connecting the anti-roll bar link to the suspension strut. Use a wire brush. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray. - Step 24
Set the suspension strut assembly on the stationary spring compressor.Replacement: strut mount – VAUXHALL VIVARO Platform/Chassis. Tip:When using a stationary spring compressor, the spring coils must be securely clamped, compressing the spring from both ends.Make sure the spring is in the correct position.Make sure that the compressor jaws are tightly engaged onto the coils. - Step 25
Compress the spring.Important!Be cautious! A compressed spring stores a large amount of energy and if the compressor slips off, the spring will expand and can cause severe injury or death. - Step 26
Clean the top part of the strut piston rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 27
Unscrew the strut piston rod nut. Use a 21 mm strut nut socket. Use an H5 hex extension bar. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 28
Remove the spacer. - Step 29
Remove the top strut mount. - Step 30
Install a new top strut mount. - Step 31
Install the spacer. - Step 32
Install and tighten the strut piston rod nut. Use a 19 mm strut nut socket. Use an H6 hex extension bar. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 60 N·m. - Step 33
Release the spring.
