How to change front springs VW LUPO TUTORIAL | AUTODOC

All the parts you need to replace – Springs for Lupo (6X1, 6E1) and other VW models
Coil spring

Replacement: coil springs – VW Lupo 6X1. AUTODOC recommends:
- Both coil springs of the front suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the front suspension.
- Please note: all work on the car – VW Lupo 6X1 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: coil springs – VW Lupo 6X1. Tip:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Disconnect the fastener of the ABS sensor cable from the shock absorber strut. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 7Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring.
- Step 8Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 9Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 10Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
- Step 11Lower the car.
- Step 12Open the bonnet.
- Step 13Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 14Remove the protective cap of the shock absorber mount.
- Step 15Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #21. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW Lupo 6X1
- Step 16Remove the suspension strut.
- Step 17Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.Replacement: coil springs – VW Lupo 6X1. AUTODOC experts recommend:Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
- Step 18Compress the spring.
- Step 19Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 20Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #21. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 21Remove the top strut mount.
- Step 22Release the coil spring.
- Step 23Remove the spring.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: coil springs – VW Lupo 6X1. Carefully inspect the mount, the boot, and the bump stop of the shock absorber. Replace if necessary.
- Step 24Install the spring on the shock absorber.
- Step 25Compress the spring.Step 26Install the upper strut mount and the strut mount bearing.
- Step 27Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a drive socket #21. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.Replacement: coil springs – VW Lupo 6X1. Tip from AUTODOC experts:Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
