How to change rear shock absorber on FIAT BRAVO 2 (198) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Shock Absorber for BRAVO II (198) and other FIAT models
Replacement: shock absorbers – Fiat Bravo 2. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Both shock struts of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock struts of the rear suspension.
Please note: all work on the car – Fiat Bravo 2 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Open the boot lid.
Step 2
Remove the mount cap from the shock absorber upper fastener.
Step 3
Loosen the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #17. Use locking pliers.
Step 4
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 5
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 6
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 7
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Fiat Bravo 2. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 8
Remove the wheel.
Step 9
Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 10
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #19. Use a tap wrench.
Step 12
Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber.
Step 13
Remove the fastening bolt. Use a drive socket #19.
Step 14
Remove the shock absorber.
Step 15
Remove the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Fiat Bravo 2. Tip:
Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary. Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
Step 16
Install the dust sleeve and the bump stop on the new shock absorber.
Step 17
Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and fasten it.
Step 18
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 19
Screw in the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #19.
Step 20
Raise the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.
Step 21
Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #19. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 22
Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: shock absorbers – Fiat Bravo 2. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 23
Install the wheel.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Fiat Bravo 2. Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 24
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 25
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 26
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Step 27
Tighten the top shock absorber fastening. Use a combination spanner #17. Use locking pliers. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 Nm torque.
Step 28
Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 29
Install the mount cap on the shock absorber upper fastener.
Step 30
Close the lid of the luggage compartment.
