Replacement: engine thermostat – VAUXHALL MOVANO Mk I (A) Van (FD). AUTODOC experts recommend:

All the work should be carried out with the engine cooled down and ignition switched off.

Carry out the replacement steps as follows:

Step 1

Open the bonnet.

Step 2

Use a fender protection cover to avoid damaging the paintwork and plastic parts of the car.

Step 3

Unscrew the coolant reservoir cap.
Step 4

Lift the vehicle using a vehicle lift or place it over an inspection pit.
Step 5

Prepare a fluid drain pan. Use a suitably sized hose.
Step 6

Unscrew the cooling system drain valve.
Step 7

Drain the coolant. Wait until the coolant has completely flowed out of the drain hole.
Step 8

Tighten the cooling system drain valve.
Step 9

Clean the cooling system drain valve. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 10

Loosen the coolant hose clamp. Use hose clamp pliers.
Step 11

Disconnect the coolant hose.

Replacement: engine thermostat – VAUXHALL MOVANO Mk I (A) Van (FD). AUTODOC recommends:
Wait until the coolant has completely flowed out of the hose.
Step 12

Clean the hose and its mounting seat. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 13

Connect the coolant hose and install the clamp. Use hose clamp pliers.
Step 14

Lower the vehicle.

Step 15

Loosen the clamp that connects the air intake hose to the mass air flow sensor. Use a 7 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 16

Detach the air intake hose from the MAF sensor.
Step 17

Prevent contaminants from getting into the air intake hose by blocking it up with a microfibre towel.
Step 18

Detach the connector from the MAF sensor.
Step 19

Loosen the clamp and disconnect the hose from the oil filler neck. Use hose clamp pliers.

Replacement: engine thermostat – VAUXHALL MOVANO Mk I (A) Van (FD). Professionals recommend:
Protect the oil filler neck hose from contaminants by blocking it up with a paper towel.
Step 20

Detach the fresh air intake hose from the air filter housing.
Step 21

Remove the air filter housing.
Step 22

Detach the connector from the coolant temperature sensor.
Step 23

Loosen the clamps and disconnect the hoses from the thermostat housing. Use hose clamp pliers.

Caution!
Coolant may leak from the thermostat housing and hoses.Protect the coolant hoses from contaminants by blocking them up.
Step 24

Unscrew the thermostat housing fasteners. Use an 8 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 25

Remove the fastening bolts.

Step 26

Remove the thermostat housing together with the thermostat. Remove the old gasket. Protect the thermostat mounting seat openings from contaminants by blocking them up.
Step 27

Clean the thermostat housing mounting seat. Use a gasket scraper. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.

Replacement: engine thermostat – VAUXHALL MOVANO Mk I (A) Van (FD). Tip from AUTODOC:
Avoid damaging the mating surface during cleaning; scoring can compromise the leak-tightness of the assembly.
Step 28

Install a new thermostat housing together with the new thermostat.
Step 29

Install and tighten the thermostat housing fasteners. Use an 8 mm socket. Use a torque wrench. Tightening torque: 8 N·m.
Step 30

Connect the hoses to the thermostat housing and install the clamps. Use hose clamp pliers.
Step 31

Treat the coolant temperature sensor connector. Use an electronic spray.
Step 32

Attach the connector to the coolant temperature sensor.
Step 33

Remove the coolant reservoir cap.

Step 34

Insert the funnel.

Step 35

Pour coolant into the reservoir.

Warning!
Only use the coolant recommended by the manufacturer.
Step 36

Unscrew the coolant bleed screw on the thermostat housing. Wait until the air goes out of the system.

Replacement: engine thermostat – VAUXHALL MOVANO Mk I (A) Van (FD). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
When loosening coolant bleed screws, use paper towels to prevent coolant from getting onto other components.
Step 37

Tighten the coolant bleed screw on the thermostat housing.
Step 38

Unscrew the coolant bleed screws on the coolant hoses. Use a slotted screwdriver. Wait until the air goes out of the system.
Step 39

Tighten the coolant bleed screws on the coolant hoses. Use a slotted screwdriver.
Step 40

Clean all coolant bleed screws and the area around them to remove any coolant. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 41

Install the air filter housing.
Step 42

Remove the microfibre towel from the air intake hose.
Step 43

Attach the air intake hose to the MAF sensor.
Step 44

Tighten the clamp that connects the air intake hose to the MAF sensor. Use a 7 mm socket. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 45

Treat the MAF sensor connector. Use an electronic spray.
Step 46

Reattach the MAF sensor connector.
Step 47

Connect the fresh air intake hose to the air filter housing.
Step 48

Connect the hose to the oil filler neck and install the clamp. Use hose clamp pliers.
Step 49

Top up the coolant in the reservoir.

Replacement: engine thermostat – VAUXHALL MOVANO Mk I (A) Van (FD). Tip:
The coolant level should be at the MAX mark on the reservoir.
Step 50

Put the coolant reservoir cap back on and tighten it.

Step 51

Run the engine for a few minutes. This should be done in order to remove residual air from the cooling system and to check that the components are operating correctly and there are no leaks. Top up the coolant to the MAX mark without exceeding it.

Step 52

Remove the fender cover.

Step 53

Close the bonnet.
