How to change air filter on BMW 3 (E46) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Air Filter for 3 Convertible (E46) and other BMW models
Drive socket # 8
Drive socket # 10
Ratchet wrench
Phillips Screwdriver
Fender cover
Replacement: air filter – BMW E46 convertible. AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Follow the terms, recommendations and requirements of the part operation provided by the manufacturer.
- Please note: all work on the car – BMW E46 convertible – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1
Open the bonnet. - Step 2
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car. - Step 3
Remove the fasteners of the air duct housing. Detach the air duct housing from the air filter housing. - Step 4
Loosen the fastening clamp connecting the air duct to the air filter housing. Remove the air intake hose. Use a drive socket #8. - Step 5
Unscrew the filter housing fastening bolts. Use a drive socket #10. - Step 6
Remove the air filter housing. - Step 7
Unplug the mass air flow sensor connector. - Step 8
Undo the fastening screws of the air filter cover. Use a Phillips screwdriver. - Step 9
Take off the filter lid. - Step 10
Unscrew the fastener of the mass air flow sensor. Remove the part. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 11
Remove the filter element from the filter housing. - Step 12
Clean the air filter cover and housing.Replacement: air filter – BMW E46 convertible. Professionals recommend:Before cleaning the air filter cover and housing, cover the air duct parts, mass airflow sensor (if available), throttle valve with a clean cloth.
