I-Shift is an automated gearbox with a manual control function, installed on Volvo trucks. It was developed by engineers of the Volvo Group and has been in use since 2001. Following its example, the I-Shift Dual Clutch transmission, a version with a double clutch, was created in 2014. Due to the presence of reduction gears, I-Shift ensures reliable starting of even a fully-loaded vehicle. At the same time, the load on the clutch is reduced by up to 75%. Moreover, fuel consumption is optimised. The ability to shift gears manually allows efficient use of the engine torque according to the road conditions. Switching to manual is performed by sliding the gear lever into the position marked “M”. Gears can be shifted up and down using the “+” and “-” buttons mounted on the gear lever.
