Hey everyone, I’ve got a 2012 Toyota Corolla and I’m about to top up the battery with distilled water. How do I know the right fill level? Also, are there any specific issues I should watch out for when doing this? Thanks!

For your 2012 Toyota Corolla, when topping up the battery with distilled water, here’s how to know the right fill level and some tips to keep in mind:

    Right Fill Level:
    - Open the battery cell caps carefully (if your battery has removable caps). You will see the electrolyte level inside each cell.
    - The electrolyte (water plus acid) should cover the top of the battery plates inside the cell. A good rule is to fill the water just enough to cover the plates, generally up to the bottom of the filler tube or slightly below the cell rim.
    - Avoid overfilling the battery, as this can dilute the acid inside, which reduces performance.
    - If the battery is fully charged, the water level will be higher, but if it’s discharged, keep the level closer to the minimum line.

    Important Tips:
    - Always use distilled water only—no tap or mineral water. Minerals in regular water can damage the battery.
    - Add water slowly in small amounts to keep levels balanced across cells.
    - After filling, replace the caps securely.
    - It’s best to check and add water after the battery has been fully charged so levels stabilize.
    - Regularly inspect the battery and keep terminals clean to prevent corrosion.

Fill the battery cells with distilled water just enough to cover the plates inside each cell, but don't overfill. Always top up after charging the battery and maintain regular checks to keep your 2012 Corolla battery performing well.

The level may be indicated on the battery case. To accurately achieve the correct electrolyte density, it must be measured using a device.
