What is the most common problem with the SEAT Ibiza? SEAT Ibiza IV Schrägheck (6J5, 6P1)
- @Ssssstttttt...25.06.2026 11:10MemberThe window regulators are definitely a weak point. I had to replace mine on both passenger doors over the years. They just stop working randomly so definitely test them all.Spare parts for your SEAT Ibiza IV Hatchback (6J5, 6P1) (03.2008 - 12.2017)

I will make sure to test the windows thoroughly during the test drive. Is it usually the motor that goes or the regulator mechanism itself?Recommended products for this topic
- @C. Smith25.06.2026 16:00@Ssssstttttt...MemberHey @Ssssstttttt... did you notice if your window regulators failed after heavy rain? Some people say moisture gets in the motor housing and causes issues.
- @Emily.B.Online25.06.2026 17:00@C. SmithMemberGood to know @C. Smith. I will add the suspension and the electrical checks to my list. I really do not want to buy a car that needs immediate expensive repairs.
- @c_harry25.06.2026 11:30MemberIf you look at a 1.2 TSI engine, watch for the timing chain. It can stretch, so listen closely for any rattling on cold starts. It is better to have a mechanic check it before you commit.
- @J.E.E.J.25.06.2026 14:00@c_harryMemberI completely agree with @c_harry about the timing chain. My brother had his replaced on his TSI and it made a huge difference. Definitely worth having it inspected by a pro.
- @TonyBaker5225.06.2026 13:00MemberI had some electrical gremlins with the central locking on my Ibiza. Sometimes the boot would not open or the door lock would stick. It was annoying but usually just a sensor issue.
- @FREDHALL26.06.2026 12:30@TonyBaker52Member@TonyBaker52 I had the exact same door lock issue on my 6J. It was just a sticky actuator in the end. A bit of lubricant fixed it up for me without needing a full replacement.
- @paulroberts8925.06.2026 15:15MemberSuspension bushings are another thing to check. They tend to wear out and you start hearing knocking sounds over bumps. Continental makes good replacement bushings if you need them later on.
- @Geoff Newman25.06.2026 18:30@paulroberts89MemberAlso check the heater blower motor. Mine started squealing like crazy. It is not the hardest fix but very annoying to deal with during the winter months.
- @33_lisa26.06.2026 15:30@Geoff NewmanMemberI had to change my blower too. I went with a Bosch part and it has been smooth since then. Definitely worth spending a bit more for reliable parts rather than going for the cheapest option.
- @Jack.Taylor27.06.2026 15:30@33_lisaMemberIt seems like these are mostly minor issues if you stay on top of maintenance. Just do a thorough inspection of the electrical bits and the engine noise, and you should be fine if it was maintained well.

I am considering picking up a used SEAT Ibiza 6J and I have been looking into reliability. I know every car has its quirks, but are there any recurring issues I should look out for before I buy one?
