Can somebody PLEASE tell me what is meant by the term: “Tap wrench” in the tutorials for relacing things like the lower wishbone of the Audi A1 suspension? I have looked on the German-language version and got the same name (Windeleisen). These both relate to the ‘tap’ used to create or clean an internal thread. A ‘tap wrench’ is used to hold and turn the tap. These are not part of a normal automotive tool collection. From the context it appears that a “Tapping wrench” is meant; as in an Impact wrench. This meaning is, however, belied by the German-language version, as mentioned above. A tap and wrench could be used to clean out the thread of a nut or similar, though it seems a little extreme for car work. AutoDocs own ‘chat line’ with a real person, only know about ‘tap wrench’ as something to hold a ‘tap’.

Does anyone know what AutoDoc tutorials mean?

Thank you and best wishes, Luke

Probably it is a tap holder. It can be of different variants. but the essence is the same, to hold the tap. It is available in sets and separately. You can contact AUTODOC (via email - [email protected] or formlive chat here: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/services/contact), or look on the website in the tools section. Threading tools.
