Ah, the Jaguar XE — sleek, posh, and oh-so-British. But like a tuxedo with a hole in the pocket, some years come with a little extra drama you might wanna dodge.

If you’re cruising the used market, watch out mainly for the early models launched between 2015 and 2017. Yep, those fresh-from-the-factory Jaguars had a few teething troubles. Owners reported issues like:
    - Electrical gremlins — think malfunctioning infotainment systems, random warning lights, and even sometimes flickering dashboards. British cars + electronics = a classic combo.
    - Transmission quirks — particularly some rough shifting or hesitation with the automatic gearbox.
    - Cooling system niggles — cooling fans and thermostat-related faults causing some overheating scares.
    - Suspension clickiness — annoying noises from the suspension over bumps, turning every ride into an unintended concert.

By 2018 and later, many of these problems got ironed out as Jaguar patched software and improved build quality. So if you want peace of mind — and fewer surprise visits to the dealer — aim for a post-2017 model.

Of course, every Jag has its bad apples, but if you pick your year wisely and get a thorough pre-purchase inspection (plus some red wine for patience), the XE can be a smooth and classy cruiser.

Ride fancy, but watch the calendar! 😄

Early Jaguar XE models (2015-2019) should be avoided due to issues with the Ingenium 2.0 diesel engines, which are prone to timing chain stretch issues and costly repairs if not serviced regularly, as well as common electronics and infotainment issues.
Top reasons to avoid early models
    Diesel timing chain issues:
Ingenium 2.0 diesel engines are very prone to timing chain stretch, especially if the car is driven in the city, which leads to oil degradation and can cause permanent engine failure, writes K Motors.
    Electronic issues:
Owners complain of frequent electrical system faults, including issues with infotainment systems and warning lights, notes What Car?.
    Engine issues:
Along with timing chain issues, there are oil leaks and turbocharger failures, which require costly repairs, reports What Car?.
    Recommendations
    Check the service history:
If you're considering buying a used XE, make sure there's a detailed service history, especially for diesel models.

    Get a thorough inspection:
Be sure to have the car professionally inspected before you buy, paying particular attention to the condition of the engine and electronics.

    Consider later models:
Later models tend to fix some of these issues, but even they require regular and proper servicing.
