Hi everyone! I’m about to do a brake fluid change on my 2008 Toyota Camry and I’m wondering how much fluid I should buy. Are there any specific brands or types recommended for UK climate? Also, any tips for bleeding the brakes? Cheers!

For your 2008 Toyota Camry, you'll typically need around 1 litre of brake fluid to do a full brake fluid change or flush. The exact capacity can vary slightly with model and whether it’s a hybrid, so it’s always good to check the owner's manual, but 1 litre is usually enough.

Regarding the type, the Camry generally uses DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid. DOT 4 is more common today and offers better boiling points, which is good for the UK climate with its variable temperatures and occasional harsh conditions. Some trusted brands in the UK include Motul, Bosch, ATE, and Prestone. They meet international standards and provide corrosion protection and reliability.

For bleeding the brakes on a Camry, here are some tips:
    - Get an assistant to pump the brake pedal while you open and close the bleeder valves on each brake caliper or wheel cylinder.
    - Start bleeding from the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (usually the right rear), then move to the left rear, right front, and finally left front.
    - Keep topping up the brake fluid reservoir while bleeding to avoid air entering the system.
    - Use a clear hose on the bleeder screw into a container to check for bubbles; bleeding is done when you see only clean fluid without air bubbles.
    - For hybrid models, some additional steps with the ABS system might be needed, sometimes requiring a scan tool or battery disconnection sequence to reset ABS pumps.

Take care to buy fresh brake fluid (less than a year old) because brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air, which lowers its effectiveness and can cause corrosion.

So in short: buy about 1 litre of DOT 4 brake fluid from a reputable brand, carefully bleed starting from the farthest wheel, keep the reservoir topped, and consider hybrid-specific bleed steps if applicable.

    Cheers with the brake job!

Brake Fluid for Toyota Camry 2008 (V40)
    1. Fluid Type: DOT 4 recommended (higher boiling point than DOT 3).
    2. Volume: 1 liter per change/flush.
    3. Bleeding Procedure: Start with the wheel furthest from the brake master cylinder: Rear right → Rear left → Front right → Front left.
    4. Main Tip: Do not allow the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir to drop below the minimum level to prevent air from entering the system.

Recommended Brands: Castrol, Bosch, ATE (DOT 4).
