Fuel gauge problem NISSAN Qashqai / Qashqai +2 I (J10, NJ10)

Two days ago I drove my Qashqai and all was fine. Parked up, left it for a few hours and when I came back to it and turned it on a couple of things happened. Firstly, my clock had reset to 12:00. Secondly, my mileage (not total, but the last count) had reset to 0. And most annoyingly, my fuel gauge and display showing distance until needing to refuel are not correct. The fuel readings are going down very fast (I can drive half a mile and the fuel until next fill up display will go down 4 miles). The gauge also dropped down very fast… about 1/6 of a tank after 4 miles! I can’t see a petrol leak under the car so have no idea what’s going on, or whether they are linked. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
@Abnalsid14.06.2024 13:50MemberHello. You better connect a diagnostic computer and check for errors. I believe there are problems in the car's electrical system. You will know if there are some.- @lee____white30.05.2025 09:47MemberBased on your description, you're experiencing multiple dashboard issues with your Nissan Qashqai simultaneously - clock reset, trip meter reset, and fuel gauge inaccuracy. These symptoms strongly suggest an electrical system problem rather than an actual fuel leak. The reset of your clock and trip meter indicates a power interruption, while the erratic fuel gauge behavior points to a sensor or communication issue. This is likely caused by a battery connection problem, faulty electrical control module, or software glitch. To diagnose the issue, connect a diagnostic computer to check for error codes. If your model has the Connect service, verify your software version is up-to-date, as outdated software can cause similar problems in Nissan vehicles. Having these issues addressed promptly will ensure accurate fuel monitoring and prevent potential breakdowns.

Had a similar issue with my Note last year - fuel gauge was about as reliable as British weather forecasts. Turned out to be a dodgy earth connection. Might be worth checking your battery terminals and connections. If all else fails, give it a good kick and hope for the best! (Just kidding, please don't actually kick your car)
- @Harry.B30.05.2025 16:29MemberOi oi, another Qashqai owner here. Had the exact same problem with my fuel gauge not working properly. Drove me mad thinking I was burning through petrol faster than a Formula 1 car! Took it to the dealer, and they found a fault in the fuel sender unit. Bit of a pain to replace, but sorted the issue right out. Might be worth getting that checked if the diagnostics don't show anything obvious.
- @liam.o.conn03.06.2025 07:44MemberHave you tried turning it off and on again? Sorry, couldn't resist! But seriously, sometimes a simple reset can work wonders. Disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes, then reconnect. It's like giving your Qashqai a little nap. If that doesn't sort it, I'd definitely get it to a garage for a proper look. Better safe than sorry when it comes to fuel gauges - unless you fancy pushing your car to the nearest petrol station!
- @P. D. Clark03.06.2025 08:26MemberCrikey, that's a right pickle you're in! My two pence worth - check the fuse for the fuel gauge. It's a long shot, but I've seen stranger things happen. And if all else fails, just fill up every time you pass a petrol station. Who needs a fuel gauge anyway? (I'm joking, of course. Please get it fixed properly!)
